How often are you talking to friends from major urban centres and suddenly you find yourself defending your life in “sleepy little Niagara?” If you’ve had to do it once, that’s too often, if you ask me. I have no idea where the idea of “sleepy little Niagara” even came from. As a proud St. Catharines native, I can honestly say I’m always busy living it up in our beautiful region! There’s always something to do here!

So, I started thinking it was time I took to the blog and let everyone know why living in Niagara beats living in Toronto. It’s all about the quality of life here, and I’m going to share some of my thoughts and opinions (and some cold, hard facts!) in my new blog series, It’s All About Lifestyle.

We can go anywhere…

Don’t get me wrong, I like the hustle and bustle of the big city…sometimes. I mean, who doesn’t love a day of sightseeing in Toronto? Catching a Jays game, exploring the aquarium or just getting some solid shopping in — Toronto’s good for a visit.

The same goes for a quick trip to the States. With the exchange rate where it’s at right now, shopping over the River isn’t as popular as it once was, but popping over for a hockey game or the perfect Buffalo wing? There’s nothing like it.

And that’s why Niagara is so great. We’re just an hour and a half from Toronto, forty minutes from Buffalo and right on the QEW to quickly get where we want to go! And at the end of the day, we can relax in the comfort of our own homes. Our proximity to anything we need can’t be beat!

But we don’t have to!

And while we have so many great places that we can easily access, we don’t have to go anywhere to have a perfect day. Owning a home in Niagara means truly living in the heart of it all.

We have wine country, beaches, walking and hiking trails, museums, shopping, dining…you name it, Niagara has it in abundance! Hit the new Outlet Collection at Niagara if you’re looking for a deal, walk the streets of Downtown St. Catharines to drink and dine or catch some rays in Crystal Beach — it’s all at our doorstep!

We don’t have to leave to find something to do. Sleepy little Niagara? Yeah, right! You can easily fill every weekend (and most weekdays) and never repeat the same event twice!

Hey Neighbour!

One of my favourite things about Niagara is our overwhelming sense of community. I truly believe that’s what draws people to buy a home in Niagara and stay here for life. When you’re living in a big city, you can walk around for hours and never see a familiar face. Here in Niagara, there is always a friend, neighbour or family member close by.

Personally, I can’t go anywhere without stopping to talk to at least three people — and if I didn’t know them well before, I know I’ll leave feeling like I’ve just made a new friend. That’s just the way we are here in the Niagara Region, friendly folks!

Whether you live in Niagara-on-the-Lake, North End St. Catharines, Port Dalhousie, Effingham, Fonthill or Fort Erie, you know your neighbours. You smile, you wave, you ask about the kids. And let’s be honest, is there anything better? I don’t think so.
