What’s going on at 239 Lakeshore Rd.?

One of St. Catharines’ last green-fields is about to become a “Niche” for North-End living.

You may have already noticed a significant swath on the north side of Lakeshore Road near Walker’s Creek that’s been cleared and readied for construction. In a year from now, it will be home to “Niche”, an exclusive condominium development built by PBG Homes.

A new “Niche” for Garden City living

“Niche” will feature 28 townhouse units, including bungalows and bunga-lofts, and a six-storey apartment building with 43 units. There will also be plenty of above – and underground parking to go with the apartment building.

What makes “Niche” so remarkable is that it’s happening on one of the last undeveloped parcels – or green-fields – in St. Catharines. This is a rarity in a city hemmed in by the Greenbelt, which forces developers to get creative about where they build new homes.

Even better, The “Niche” community will boast all the features I love about living in North-End St. Catharines. It’s close to all the amenities you could possibly need, including shopping and great schools, but it’s also mere steps from one of the city’s most picturesque and loved greenspaces, Walker’s Creek Park and Trail.

Who’s PBG Homes?

PBG Homes is another family-run operation, this one started in 1973 by Tony Continelli, who was joined in the business by his son Anthony in 1999 – I love a family business. PBG is a boutique firm that specializes in custom homes in small communities to ensure quality craftsmanship in everything they do.

They’re also part of the ENERGY STAR program, building new homes that are significantly more energy efficient than standard homes. Green homes in one of the greenest corners of the city? That gets a gold star from me.

We’ve watched PBG Homes breathe new life into the former Glen Ridge School in the historic Old Glen Ridge neighbourhood on the other end of town. We can’t wait to see them bring “Niche” to life in 2023!
