After traveling to 39 countries, one question always stays the same: “Where are you from?” While we proudly say Niagara, the way our region is governed is sparking a massive debate. Currently, Niagara has 126 politicians representing 500,000 people—that is more than the 124 members of the Ontario Legislature representing 15 million people.
In this video, we dive into the “For” and “Against” of Niagara Region amalgamation. From eliminating duplication of roles like CAOs and fire chiefs to the concerns surrounding local representation and the Hamilton amalgamation case study, we explore what progress looks like for our community.
